i realized today
one of the things that i am missing...

when i start a new body of work
i usually have what i call a
"leap piece"
it's a painting i've made,
sometimes quite small
that puzzles me

i definately "recognize" it as mine
but i don't know where it comes from
and my work for the next period of time
revolves around figuring that out
learning how to make that piece
owning it

so in essence
it's my guide
and right now
i don't have one

no wonder it's so difficult

i don't know what possessed me to invert this
i guess it was that "play" thing trying to come out again
