March 22, New York City: Up to 250,000 people turned out on Broadway to protest the preemptive invasion of Iraq specifically, and American foreign policy in general. It was a beautiful day, and the mood was buoyant despite the bombs dropping half a world away. Perhaps for the first time in days, we were barraged with messages that ran counter to the corporate pro-military lockstep that views weapons as fireworks and lusts after the adventure of witnessing death firsthand. It was a breath of fresh air and sunshine, and proof that dissent isn't going away, no matter how much FoxNews and the crooks in Washington want it to. |
