I supposed it was what we call here "terça" or "frechal" , frechal is the last "Mènsula" supporting a roof, the one we can see right at the roof border; the hidden ones are "terças"
curious is that i have never seen them made of stone ( looks like in your photo ).
but as the building is so fantastically antique, it looks much more curious and beautiful for me.
