The 7 train Underpass
Like Bensonhurst (see pics further down), Jackson Heights is vibrantly alive with sights, sounds and smells. One part of the underpass is decidedly Central American: you can buy discos, soccer shirts and the best mole poblano this side of the Mississippi River. They don't speak English to you in the restaurants. They might be diligent worker bees in Manhattan during the week, but in Jackson Heights, it's their turf. So we dusted off our Spanish and got along fine. The other side is an equally colorful mix of Asian stores, but I haven't been to that part yet.
