bull in the heather - painted version
.
this silhouette brings me back so many childhood memories..............
I can still remember seeing the massive black metal bulls standing at the top of the hills on our way to the beach in summer............all the excitement and fuss that came about when we spotted The Bull in the distance............i don't know how high they are, and then were, but you could notice from afar that they were, and still are, just huge.....................
they were part of an advertising campaign for a wine and brandy manufacturing company called Osborne............
at the beginning of the nineties they were on the point of disappearing due to a stupid regulation on roadside advertising.......................actually many of them were knocked down and turned into wreck...!!!......................
luckily, and thanks to the effort, work and even some lobbying of many relevant and anonymous people, they were declared a cultural symbol of public interest............
that's why a few of them could survive.....................
since then they have become a symbol of Spain..........
and the people of my generation we all get so so excited when we make out one of them in the horizon..............all that child-like excitement, all the fuss, just comes back for a few seconds......................there is The Bull...!!!...........
because there they stand............so simple...........so powerful...................so beautiful...............so proud of themselves..............making you know and feel that sometimes we may win...............................
