A victim of war.
by sissel on October 11, 2003
First printed edition of Marsilio of Padua's treatise "Defensor Pacis" (Defender of peace), written in the 1320's. The book belonged to Copenhagen University Library, now the Royal Library of Copenhagen. During the English bombardement of Copenhagen in 1807, grenades fell through the roof of the University Library. Among the books damaged by the shrapnel - The Defender of Peace.

Excellent subject. I do wish there was a bit more lighting. I think it's time to update too!

Brilliant Sissel. I am now left to sit here and ponder whether the book jumped in front of other books to protect them when this occurred. Obviously I've watched The Sorcerer's Apprentice one too many times.

Ironic and tragic.
