mountain view
1/1
so,
i heard about these rides that john goes on, up into the mountains
actually, it came in the form of a warning:
"don't let him take you..."
but it sounded really interesting to me
not the part about riding 5 hours off rode in those horrible, noisy atvs
but seeing more of the country,
going into a another climate zone,
waterfalls, butterflies
wild orchids, ocelots
(well we didn't go up quite that far)
all that sounded a little more appropriate for new years than another day at the beach
so we got up in the morning
made sandwiches
(we are talking white bread, mayo, bologna & cheese here,
tho i managed some avocado on mine)
packed the beer
and headed out
john in one rhino
us in another
and juan carlos taking up the rear.
it was a wild and woolly adventure
the roads were so narrow
and for most of the way there was a sheer drop down on one side and a 2' deep gully on the other
at one point the "road" was so washed out, we had to stop and rebuild it
(yes, we had a shovel & a chain saw with us...)
there were tons of butterflies
a fair amount of cows,
streams to traverse
and the waterfall
i asked twice how high up we were, but i have forgotten.
i do know that the temperature dropped about 10 degrees.
while the roads certainly measured up to anything that i had imagined while tossing and turning in bed,
this was not a totallyisolated area as i had feared
no matter how far up we went, we encountered a tiny, remote community
and john said that people lived as far up as he had eve gone.
