OMG
sorry
this looks
sooooooooooooooo awful
and it was
sooooooooooooooo good
and i was
sooooooooooooooo excited about it
(not by it)
because it's only the second "new" thing
i've been inspired to make since moving
(the first being...
yup, you guessed it...
fried green tomatoes)
and normally i experiment with food all the time
anyway, i have eaten this a couple of times before;
once or twice in a restaurant
and once at a friend's.
thank heaven for google: this was a great guide
these are the notes i made:
(as if after seeing this you are going to want to run out and make it yourself)
soak livers in salted water for at least 1 hr
rinse off
rinse with sake
soak in sake for 10 minutes
using a fine tweezer pull out any blood vessels
roll each up in tinfoil, tightly like a cigar,
punture 15-20 holes with sharp implement
steam for 35 minutes
let it come to room temperature
dipping sauce
heat slices of ginger in soy sauce
bring to a boil
simmer a bit
stir in some sugar
cool
add juice of 1/2 lemon & 1/2 lime (grapefruit might be nice)
top with scallions
