this election thing is really starting to get to me
this is what i wrote to the times yesterday:
To the Editor:
I have real problems with the wording of the title of Peter Baker's article: "Choice of Palin Is a Bold Move..." (8/30/08)
The choice is many things but I do not believe bold is one of them.
While "bold" does imply risk taking it is not usually used to characterize an action that is both fool hardy and hypocritical, two words which I feel do characterize this bizarre choice of running mate.
It is a fool hardy choice to put someone with so little practical experience on either the national or international front, one heartbeat away from the presidency. It is however a decision that puts our country (as well as possibly his own campaign) at great risk. When a candidate defines their criteria for running mate as someone with whom they will get along and work well with, it does seem fool hardy to pick a person you have met only once or twice.
And it is a hypocritical choice because McCain's stated position is to put the country first and to not make "political decisions". I fail to see how this choice can be construed as anything but politics at its worse. And hypocritical because of the relentless undermining of his opponent's campaign based on questioning Obama's age and experience
This choice appears to be many things; a flip-flop on positions, a cavalier disregard for the safety of our country, extreme misjudgment as a potential leader of our country, but it is most certainly not bold.
i feel i really need to do something
i am afraid that will be one more distraction
from getting my life back
then i feel selfish
then i realize art requires a fair degree of that...
