i found myself today
on 56th street & park
where my father's store was
where i spent a fair portion of my childhood

the building it was in has been gone for many years
replaced by something tall and gleaming
but i was shocked to see that the drake hotel
a venerable ny institution
had been recently demolished
and was now a huge empty lot
the mercedes showroom on the corner
has of course
survived
