the "foliage" here
is dried leaves from last year...

the lilac court,
where risha's bench is
was supposed to be opened last spring
but winter rains & covid delayed the construction
it also delayed getting the mature lilac bushes
back into the ground...

no one from the garden has told me this
but what is planted here
is not their magnificent prior collection -
my guess is that they suffered a major loss of plants
and they are basically starting from scratch;
so i don't have very high hopes
for the first year of blooms
