Andry Hernandez Romero, the gay makeup artist who was unlawfully deported to CECOT prison in El Salvador by Trump, has been returned to his home country of Venezuela.

All of the nearly 250 Venezuelan men who had been deported from the United States and held in El Salvador’s notorious CECOT mega-prison were released and flown to Venezuela as part of a high-profile prisoner exchange.

The global LGBTQ+ community has been calling for Andry to be returned to the United States after he was documented crying and being abused by police at CECOT. He was sent there for having tattoos of crowns on his wrists which his lawyers say were a tribute to his time spent in beauty pageants but ICE said were ties to a gang.

Andry originally fled Venezuela to escape violence and persecution as a gay man. Now he will be returned to the country he fled but will at least be given his freedom.
