The Draft, Gitmo and Human Evolution
by growpeace on March 31, 2005

The draft has been used too many times in the past to tear mothers and lovers away from their young men. Now the articles are coming every day pointing to a draft.

It is going to take a lot of warm living bodies; I mean cannon fodder, to invade 25 “unstable” nations.

Hey U.S. takes one to know one eh? Unstable, that is a great word for our society.

Whew, I really need to ask at this point, who made the U.S. the Jell-O sheriff for the whole world anyway?

So now we hear some people were released from “Gitmo”

“The United States holds at Guantanamo about 540 foreign citizens captured in what U.S. President George W. Bush calls the global war on terrorism. Most were picked up in Afghanistan.

Bush decided these prisoners were not covered by the Geneva Conventions.

Enemy combatant status does not guarantee rights required under international law for POWs.”

Why does Bush get to decide who is and isn’t covered by the Geneva conventions? Who gave him that power?

War is killing, raping and trashing children’s lives and our planet.

It is way past overdue time to evolve as a species beyond war. I hope we figure out some way.

I leave you with this great quotation from Stephen Stills,
"Society needs to keep conversing in order to avoid a tragedy like the one in 1970."

Peace, Joy
