Young Golden Eagle
by hgpayne on October 9, 2003
At least I think it is a young golden eagle. S/he was resting on the railing to our deck. S/he only posed long enough for me to grab my camera and take a couple quick pictures.

Wonderful picture!
But this is a hawk for sure but I am not sure which one. My first guess is a darker morph of a Red Tailed Hawk.
A Golden Eagle will have thick feathers all the way down their legs, less banding and dark brown body with golden neck. Juveniles have vivid white patches in the wings and a white tail with black band~

I actually thought it to be a Red Tailed Hawk as well, but a friend insisted it was a young golden eagle. I didn't think it looked right to be an eagle myself.
