slightly distorted
3/23
i subscribe to a twice-weekly art letter from robert genn of the painter's keys. while much of it refers to representational artists and their work, for the most part, i find these letters to be inspirational and informative and they always include an interesting quote or two.
today's letter dealt with finishing work and introducing an "element of elegance"; all in all, quite fitting subject matter for me. there was a discussion of "gradation" that i found particularly useful in that my work relies largely on color relationships and there was the reminder that love is essential to the process.
i came back in to the studio tonight with renewed energy and a willingness to keep exploring.
"That which is not slightly distorted lacks sensible appeal; from which it follows that irregularity - that is to say, the unexpected, surprise and astonishment, are a essential part and characteristic of beauty."-- Charles Baudelaire
