the memory of a smell
7/25
they say that a smell carries the strongest associative memories...
tonite i needed to empty the drawers of my old vanity, it had been mostly done many months ago, but someone is finally going to take it away tomorrow and of course the hardest part is left; the stuff i really should throw out, but that i am going to keep anyway:
empty jewelry boxes, some so old that they are the kind that are lined with satin and click shut with a satisfying snap as well as many more blue tiffany boxes than i still have jewelry for
an odd assortment of barrettes and combs
a very dusty feather thing which must be a hat ornament, from my grandmother
the wildest assortment of nail polish imaginable
and
perfume bottles...
probably every scent i ever wore and some i didn't
and i smelled each one
and went to so many places that i am a little tired now
and i still haven't put it all away.
