i was riding home from a yoga class today
feeling great actually,
it was a special class
and a beautiful
(tho cold)
day
and i passed this poor baby in the street

i rode a block or so and had to go back
to make sure s/he wasn't alive

s/he was dead
but i didn't want her
(now it's a she to me)
to get mashed
especially if she belonged to someone
and they might find her

she was still warm
and not at all stiff
and i just now realized
i saw the car that must have hit her
turning the corner
as i came up the block
