the other night
on my ride home
i looked up and saw
a most beautful silvery moon
looking full
but perhaps not quite

on my way home tonight
i looked for her
first in the quadrant of the sky
where she was 2 nights previously
and then
everywhere else
but no moon

i checked the sky for stars
(even though i knew it was perfectly clear)
and there they were
so
where was the moon?

i was totally baffled
and for a moment
i was convinced that "despicable me" had come true
and gru had stolen the moon

then i turned a corner
and started downhill
and there she was
right in front of me
not up in the sky
but hovering low on the horizon
and bigger than i had ever seen her

i was mesmerized,
i took pictures all the way home
whenever she came into view
i don't have a very deep zoom
so the pix aren't great
somehow i like this the best
even though it's out of focus
and the other lights are competing
but it has some of the magic that i felt

(to take it
involved straddling my bike
in the middle of a fast moving 2 lane street
but you do what you have to do)

so i realize it might be a little difficult
to tell which is the moon
it's large
and low
and (almost) in the center
