a sister from the chaplain's office
came by and offered us
a prayer
or some good wishes

my mom choose good wishes
and the sister delivered
some optimistic thoughts,
some words of strength
and some encouragement for new beginnings

when she left
my mom turned to me and said
"i wonder what the prayer was like"
i said
"probably the same,
with 'our heavenly father'
at the beginning
and 'amen'
at the end"
