even though i had gotten up at 5:30 am and it was 5:30 pm,
even though all i had to drink since leaving home was a cup of coffee,
even though all i had eaten all day was some prunes, some almonds, a banana, a scone and a fiber bar,
even though i wasn't really wearing enough clothes and the sun was dropping,
even though I had already ridden 10 miles up and was facing 10 miles home,
even though i was emotionally spent from dealing with doctor after doctor,
i took a big detour and rode through central park on my way home
i just couldn't face the grit and noise of 2nd avenue
and i just couldn't resist the beauty of spring.
