it seemed a bit like
bringing coals to newcastle
to bring flowers to the BBG
to put on risha's bench
plus
i didn't think it would have been appreciated
if i left them

but i did bring 6 stones
(in the jewish tradition
not that she was religious
in any way)
and a dried, pressed sprig of lilac
from last birthday's remembrance
to make a little memorial
on her bench

the boxes in the picture
originally held the soap
we used when i was a little girl

then risha used them to store
her stones & shells
the object under them is one of her collages
made from the stones she collected
mounted on driftwood from the beach
everything she made
was a poem
