it is a relatively recent tradition...........it started in the early 20th century, a year when there was a surpluss of grapes after the grape season...........

if you do not have the grapes, you are supposed to 'enjoy' bad luck during the year that has just started..............of course, i do not believe this...........

i stopped having the grapes when juanjo started sleeping over because we had miniature m&ms chocolates instead............

you are not allowed to do this...........hahahahah.........otherwise you will have very bad luck.............

also we had the grapes one hour after the year had started because he had the grapes with his parents and they brought him over after that..........as the canary islands are located in a time zone which is one hour behind spain, we tuned on their TV and had the grapes one hour later............

by the way..........juanjo has never had the twelve grapes because he detests them..........i do not like them either..........i only have grapes on some new year's eves...............

it is really popular in spain, especially in winter time...........asturias, in the north of spain, is a great cider producer and they manufacture really nice ciders there...................
