r.e. gilda
i cannot believe you were not aware of this film.........it is sooooo famous here...........well, let's better say it was............. it was released during franco's regime and rita hayworth became a sex symbol in spain straight away.........she was so sexual and sensual that i still do not understand that franco's censors allowed releasing the film.............. the film became even more famous due to a fake piece of news of the time that said that she went all bare after the glove scene (that is how the famous scene where she takes off her gloves is known here in spain).........of course it was not true, so this fake piece of news was reinvented and said that some censors allowed the nude scene in some cinemas where others just forbid it..........imagine what a unintentional advertising campaign.............every male being in spain wanted to go to the movies.............every woman in the country destested the film and rita hayworth as well.............this legend still lingered when i was a kid and i remember my maternal grandmother talking about this movie and about how bold and sassy rita was............crazy..............!!!! i have been doing some research for the name of the snack and have gone through my own rabbit hole...........i have found two explanations of the origin but none of them convince me............. I have copied and pasted................. According to legend, the owner of Casa Vallés created this pintxo and named it after the film character Gilda because the combination of flavors in this pintxo – the saltiness of the anchovies, the spiciness of the peppers, and the bitterness of the olives – was meant to symbolize her complex personality and sensuality. Precisely that year, the film Gilda, starring actress Rita Hayworth, was released, so in her honour it was decided to coin the snack with that name because it was “green, salty and a little spicy” (in the 1940s in our country the beautiful actress embodied a canon so distant from the strict conventions of the time, the film being described as “seriously dangerous”…). I find the second explanation more plausible............. what is clear is how big an impact the movie had in spanish society of the time..........and what huge publicity it got for free................... maximorgana - Jan 27, 2025 |
