JVP (Jewish Voice for Peace) - NYC member leader Esther Farmer (Queen Esther)
gave a fiery speech
and performed one of the seder's traditions:
breaking the matzo
which is literally about breaking a piece of matzo to create the Afikomen,
one of the central miracles in the Passover narrative.

It suggests all the ways we are not yet whole,
and all that is within us that we feel compelled to hide,
it suggests all about us that remains undiscovered, enslaved.
The broken matzo represents the parts of us we or others reject.
Therefore, we hide it.
But without finding “it,” the afikoman,
it is impossible to continue with the seder.
