this is in the elizabeth st garden
which was built by the community on an abandoned city lot
now there is a big lawsuit
because the city wants to reclaim the lot
to build much needed senior housing
(patti smith performed here recently to raise funds and awareness for the legal battle)

it is in an affluent community
and normally i would say
we need to take care of the underserved...
but this is also an oasis
in an area devoid of green space
and it is a labor of love
and a thing of beauty
and a beacon of possibility
and that is important too
