protesting illegal ICE activity in NYC
6/17
one of the largest crisis we are facing in this country
is the illegal roundup of people who have come to this country hoping to gain citizenship
while it is true that they entered the country "illegally"
they are documented in our immigration system
and are going through a process to get work permits, pay taxes, contribute to our economy and hopefully be allowed to stay
we now have a situation where ICE agents,
many who are masked, armed and refuse to show any official ID
are abducting people from the courts
AFTER their scheduled hearings,
even when the judge has given them a date to return to court.
the "rules" and practices change daily
there are normal citizens,
like myself,
who go into the courts,
and try to obtain information from these people so we can help them & contact loved ones if they are abducted
we also sit in on the hearings (they are public)
and try to protect people when they leave the courtrooms
the work is getting harder and harder
and more dangerous
today
one of our top elected officials in nyc AND a candidate for mayor
was detained by ICE as HE attempted to help someone who was being abducted.
I was on a train back to brooklyn when i got the news
but
despite having spent a horrific day in court yesterday,
i turned around and went back to the courts to protest
