re: how well preserved they are

one of the disappointments
in addition to not being properly prepared to take pictures
was my disorientation: there was something "unfamiliar" about the frescos...
not that i had ever seen them before in person
but i was very familiar with them from pictures
and what i was experiencing felt like a bit of a cartoon
the result of being overly restored
