after surveying the garden
i decided that under the crab apple tree
would be a beautiful resting place for smudge
and so
i went out to the garden to dig her grave

it was so warm
that i didn't need shoes
and it felt very peaceful
and very right

when we got back from the vet
we put her in
on a bed of dried leaves
and then covered her with more leaves
before filling the hole

the whole process so calming,
it really helped me with the grief,
and it's a comfort to know that she is there,
right outside my studio

there are 3 roses on her grave now
in a month
it will be covered with tiny white petals from the tree
