a 180º turn from the ordinariness of yesterday:
today began at 3 AM with a bang (literally) and much disruption that was only interrupted by torrential downpours, massive street flooding and the failure of our sump pumps in the basement giving rise to the possibility of losing our brand new ($10,000) boiler.
by 10 AM the street was cordoned off and filled with emergency vehicles as the building opposite mine on grand street was in imminent danger of collapse.
by noon it had shifted to the left 12 inches, the surrounding buildings had been evacuated and the news trucks, fresh off the flood story a block away were looking for their next scoop.
