so i realized something about myself tonite
well,
realized is the wrong word because it's something i have known for a long time
i guess i just understood it on a deeper level
or maybe just remembered it...
anyway,
it used to kind of amaze me that after living in the same place for 25 years,
i could take my daily walk to buy bread,
3 blocks away
and always find something to photograph
it seems the more known something is to me,
the more i see
some people love the excitement and stimulation of going to a new place
for me it is the opposite
i am not into celebrating the spectacular
but more into discovering the most common, ordinary things,
finding the subtle shifts that cause the familiar to become fresh
it is a love of detail
and an appreciation of routine,
i think it's also the same part of my mind that is so tuned to things like continuity in movies
and it felt good today to realize that there are some place in my new life that are becoming known to me in this way
there are some places that i consider "mine" enough to photograph
