i once had a project
the purpose was to map my visual language

i wrote words that i felt i painted
on little cards
each day
i would pull one at random
and paint that word
then,
periodically
i would analyze them
isolate the components that made up the image;
the type of line: harsh, flowing, that red & black line
the quality of the colors: strong, pastel, vibrant
etc.

i had a database that i entered all this stuff into
the words were divided into groups:
emotions, actions, concepts
and the qualities would be applied
and the point was to see how the visual language that i was developing described the things i was painting

eventually i wanted to scan in all the images
so you could see the whole thing visually
of course i never finished
there were 100s upon 100s of paintings
i've been discarding a lot of them
others i cut up and use as gift cards

(there are 100s of those too
i was once going to try to package them
in an appealing way and sell them
but that's a totally different project)

the database is on an old version of access
soon i won't have a computer that can run it
but i am not discarding this little bundle of words
