progress(?)...february
2/28
so,
this is now...
i am not even sure how high it is...
7 stories? 8? 9?
you would think that i would have been obsessively counting
but
since i have no control over it
i'll just deal with whatever it will be
We have a severe housing shortage in NY
and that means we need taller buildings to be built
all over the city
our neighborhood, which is predominately low rise
with 1-4 family homes went through a rezoning a number of years ago
i was a part of that process
the compromise reached was:
taller buildings can be built along the commercial corridors
(primarily the avenues)
while the side streets will maintain a rule
that buildings can not be taller than 4 stories
this will help to preserve the character of the neighborhood
i can't argue with that,
people need places to live
and my evening light is not more important than creating more housing
that said,
i don't think this building is for lower income people
which, if it were, i would at least feel better about it
the other issue is, there is another building
about 1/2 a block away under construction
it is bigger and will be completed around the same time.
when these 2 buildings are occupied
the entire character of the neighborhood will shift dramatically
i am not looking forward to this aspect of it at all.
