Wild Horses
by ridingduo on April 3, 2005
A little East of the valley, where I70 enters the Rockies between the Bookcliffs and the Grand Mesa is a region known for it's population of wild horses. This was my first visit here; finding two just yards away from the trailhead. Unprepared for a real hike I didn't go far, but heard that there were small bands of 6-9 horses about a mile or two up the canyon. Must return...

Very beautiful! There's an old guy at the end of our street whose father and grandfather owned a blacksmith shop. He remembers the workers shoeing wild horses that were brought east by train.
