sunflower field in downtown Kyoto
from my rambling notebook:
At the temple we played BS in Japanese and I almost won, but I totally lost. Instead of saying "BS" we said "USOU!" 'twas fun. Then most of us left with Jason (who had previously disappeared for an hour) to downtown Kyoto. Them girls stayed home to care for the sick and be sick.
Sooo in downtown Kyoto we walked past a bunch of stores and ice cream places. There was a homeless-looking guy with 2 sleeping kittens on his lap and 2 sleeping kittens in a large plastic bin. They were so cute! But... couldn't buy... not a good idea. Anyway... we went to this covered mall which looked like an alley way (most fabulous malls are hidden in alley like places). Guess what, there was a bakery at the very front! Instead of buying more delicious bread for dinner I bought giant sushi for like ¥495. I told the guy at the sushi place that I couldn't read the kanji name of the sushi and then sat around being an awkward American while the sushi was being made. Mmm. 'twas good, although it kept falling all over the place (badly made but delicious). OH and then in an alley next to the sushi place there were ten thousand vending machines and I finally bought the MOMO MIZU! DELICIOUS!!
Then we wandered around for like 2 hours and looked for a place that would pierce Silvia's ears and... other ways to spend money. That's where I bought the candy for uhmanduhkay. Yaa... that was a pretty cool/fun mall... there was ice cream. What else. Oh yeah there was a Colonel Sanders dressed in a kimono holding a watermelon, which was most likely stuffed with (Kentucky) fried chicken. Unfortunately, they do not sell watermelons at KFC. Andrew responds to that with, "why would they?"
On the way back there was a huge lineup of capsule machines... Theeeen there was that Mr. Young Men restaurant which had little dollhouse chairs and tables sitting next to the plastic food in the window display. Neato. Theeen there was a giant cup filled with fruit and ice cream, fruit, jelly, custard, and corn flakes. It was over a food tall and cost ¥1680. Yeah... then we went home to the temple and talked loudly some more before going to sleep. the end!
